Alternative One-Time Initial Eligibility Rule Effective July 1, 2000 (this primarily affects apprentices)

If you do not meet the standard initial eligibility requirements for Health & Welfare AND you have NEVER been covered under the Fund, an alternative rule will be tested against your work record for hours worked on and after July 1, 2000 which may allow you initial eligibility.  The alternative rule is:

At least 500 hours of work for contributing employers in two consecutive eligibility quarters.

If you meet this alternative eligibility rule for hours worked on and after July 1, 2000, you will be eligible for the benefit quarter which follows at least 500 hours (and the month preceding that benefit quarter).  This alternative rule applies only to boilermakers who have never been covered under the Fund's health plan.

None of the hours worked to achieve initial eligibility under this alternative initial eligibility rule, including any hours in excess of 500, will be applied to an Employee's reserve bank.

After you have established initial eligibility, your eligibility will continue during subsequent benefit quarters if the hours worked by you (if any) in each preceding eligibility quarter, plus the hours in your "Reserve Bank" total at least 250 hours.
